WESSEL VERRIJT

Residency Arthouse United Cowboys
January - April 2021

Wessel Verrijt (1992, Eindhoven) is always on the move, just like his mobile installations made of wood, cardboard and textile, explored the streets. Performance installation in the art house planned soon…

For three months Wessel Verrijt was in residence at Arthouse United-C in Eindhoven, the workspace of United Cowboys. The building offers space to artists for research, meeting and presentation. In one of the workspaces in the Arthouse, new sculptures were created from found materials that play the leading role in films and performance material. The sculptures act as props, decor pieces and antagonists, creating new environments, movements and combinations.

The final presentation was unfortunately not open to everyone, because a public event was not possible due to Covid Restrictions. However, I was able to receive several visits at the end of the residency so that the presentation was visible to a small audience.

During the presentation at Art House United-C, the sculptures stand in the space as architectural structures: the only thing that emphasizes their mobility is the wheels on which they are built. The theater lighting makes it seem as if we are in the middle of the set of a performance where the performers have left. The sculptures are standing next to us, like the props of a play we just missed. –Linda Köke
